A drawback (if you can call it one) of us Americans I hear is that we’re too friendly. We have a “slap your back and invite you over” type of mentality that others find very forward and sometimes fake. I like to use that to my advantage. I enjoy meeting new people and talking with them. That usually goes a long way in breaking the ice even if there is a massive language barrier. There have been times where at the end of the night, I’m with a group I’ve met hours prior and we’re all trading stories in our own languages and we’re all laughing and understanding what the other is saying. It’s fantastic. Just don’t be the ugly American as stated in Communicating.
