Portland, OR is a type of city that for many holds a love it or hate is feeling. It’s a different city. I’m not saying that’s good or bad, just different.
The city definitely has a large town feel vs. a small city vibe. It’s a beautiful city that’s on the water and getting around is incredibly easy. The easiest way around is to just walk and explore. Anyone who enjoys the outdoors will love to go hiking on the many scenic trails within 30 minutes of the city. Also, it’s a food truck lovers’ paradise. I don’t think it’s possible to go more than a few blocks without running into a parking lot that’s been overtaken by food trucks that sell all types of food.
Of course there are also the obligatory breweries like Deschutes with its massive beer hall and restaurant as well as distilleries like House Spirits located at the airport (you also get a $28 per person credit if you’re a Priority Pass Member). Also, restaurants like Lardo and Pine Street Biscuits will definitely offer something for the morning after a heavy night of partying.
The city is a hipster city so if you’re not used to it, this might be a little awkward. But I think it adds to the uniqueness of the city. I won’t call it charm (since it really isn’t my taste) but it’s certainly different. As someone who loves all things food, this city hit all the spots for me in spades. But would I live there? Not so much…but you’ll have to go to form your own opinion.
