So my long vacation this year will be in November/December (my work schedule only allows me to take a vacations during certain times of the year) and I’ll be going down to Peru and a few other places for just over 3 weeks. I take shorter mini trips throughout the year but those are just around long holiday weekends and never for more than a few days.
Well, I was looking over my plans this weekend trying to get an idea of things to do when I suddenly realized I had grossly miscalculated the amount of time it would take to get from Paracas to Arequipa. For some reason, in my head, I thought it was about a 2 hour bus ride down…and it looks like I’m off by over 10 hours.
Now I’m not sure what was going through my head when I originally planned this but now I’m not sure what to do. This really wouldn’t be a big deal except that I hate long car rides since I tend to get car sick but since Paracas is 4 hours south of Lima, to get a flight from Lima to Arequipa would be a substantial backtrack and the amount of time I’d be saving would only amount to about 3-4 hours after everything. So the significant added cost of the flight really doesn’t make too much sense.
I also wanted to use the couple days in Arequipa to get acclimated to the altitude before going to Cusco so now I’ll in essence be there for just 1 full day before leaving. Obviously I’ll survive but what really has me scratching my head is how on earth did I misjudge the timing so badly?
